TOLERANCE OF COUPLING ALIGNMENT -
Hello friends all of you know about the coupling, coupling is a device use to connect the drive to driven or work as mediator between drive and driven to transmit the power from drive to driven. While connecting a drive shaft to driven shaft it is very important to check its alignment.
All of you are well known about alignment of coupling and why it is important. I have to describe in brief the fault occurs in equipment if these are not properly align are given below.
- If a shaft is not properly aligned the chance of premature bearing damage is increases.
- By the misalignment of equipment there is excessive vibration during operation so Chance of premature damage in shaft and component is increases.
- Slight misalignment will generates excessive forces on the coupling, shaft and bearing.
While we perform alignment of coupling it is impossible to do correct alignment or zero-zero alignment so there is some tolerances in alignment of coupling means when we reach in between tolerance then our alignment is ok.
This limit is accepted world widely and this is different for different coupling. By using this, selection of coupling is easier while designing a design of equipment. For example if we align the tyre coupling , then as per the table our aligning value must be in range according to table that is offset allowed 4 mm , angular or radial 4° and axial float 5 mm.
