BOILER WATER QUALITY-
Boiler is very important part of a power plant and also we can say that it is the heart of power plant, so it is necessary to maintain the quality of feed water and check regularly the PH value for smooth running of boiler and increase its working life.
All natural water used for feeding the boiler generally contains oxygen and mineral salts which are harmful for use in as it is. Whatever may be the mod of treatment to remove these ingredients? It is not practical possible to remove all the impurities completely.
Traces of these impurities are bound to be present in water feed to the boiler and they increase in concentration due to continued evaporation of water to steam. If concentration increase beyond the certain limits it gives rise to carry over of water in form of minute droplets in suspension in the steam leaving the drum.
This will give rise to deposit of chemicals in the water particles getting deposit on the super heater internal surfaces and also on the turbine blades. This in the turn will obstruct heat transfer in super heaters and steam flow through turbine blades.
Also it may result in corrosion on the super heater tube material and also turbine blades. To avoid this problem, water fed to boiler is treated chemically by adding some chemical in to the drum and also at the feed Water inlet.
This term as the internal treatment of boiler drum. Tri sodium phosphate solution is injected into boiler drum to maintain PH of the boiler water and the hydrazine solution is dosed in the boiler feed suction after the deaerator for removal of oxygen content in feed water.
The concentration of boiler water is controlled and kept within safe limits by blowing down the boiler water regularly.
