# ELBOW CENTER AND MITER ELBOW

ELBOW –

This is the fitting element used to divert the direction of line.  It is some time called bend . There are three types of elbow such as

1. Standard elbow – in such elbow       R= 1.5 D
2. Short radius elbow  - in such elbow R < 1.5 D
3. Long radius elbow – In such elbow R > 1.5 D

Find out the elbow centre

For 90° elbow = 38.1 x OD

For 45° elbow = 15.8 x OD

Formula for find out the elbow centre = tan (require degree/2) X radius

Let’s take an example of 90° elbow

= tan 45 x 1.5 x 2

= 1”  X 1.5 X2

=1” X 3

=25.4 MM X 3

=76.2 MM

MITER ELBOW-

The elbow we fabicated from pipe according to our required degree called miter elbow. For fabication of miter elbow  we have to use following formula

F1= tan(D/N X 2) X C X 2

F2= F1/2

Cut back = (tan(D/N X 2) X OD) / 2

Here

D=  Required degree

N = Number of cut

C = Require radius of elbow center

OD = Pipe out side diameter

For example if we want to make miter elbow of 90 degree by using  10 inch pipe with following input.

D = 90 degree

N = 4 Cut

C = 381 ( as per standard elbow center radius)

OD = 273 mm

By using the upper formula the valve is

F1 = tan( 90/ 4 X2) X 381 X 2

=   tan(11.25) X 381 X2

= 0.1989 X 381 X 2

= 151.6 mm

F2 = 151.6/2

= 75.8 mm

Cut back = tan(90 / 4 X 2 ) X 273/2
