DRAFT SYSTEM IN BOILER
It is necessary in boiler to supply sufficient quantity of air for proper combustion of fuel and it is essential to force the flue gases out of boiler. This is accomplished by employee suitable fans and system is terms as Mechanical Draft as against natural draft.
Why it is necessary?
Because there is small pressure difference in the stream of flue gases or in air so to maintain the proper supply of air and force out the flue gases this system is necessary.
Types of mechanical draft systems-
In mechanical draft system, there are two types of applications namely forced draft (pressurised furnace) and Balance Draft (balance furnace).
Force Draft System- In the force draft system, a fan called force draft fan is installed to force the atmospheric air through the boiler furnace (for proper combustion of fuel) and to push out the flue gases through the flues, economiser, air heaters etc to the stake.
In this the boiler furnace is under a positive pressure. Utmost care is necessary to seal the furnace tightly so that the hot gases inside the furnace do not leak out.
Balanced Draft System- In the balance draft system, two fans are employed one termed forced draft fan and other termed induce draft fan. The force draft fan is to utilized to force the air into the furnace. Then it is the function of induce draft fan to suck out the boiler flue gases through the flues, economiser and air pre heaters and discharged it out to the stack.
These two working together to maintained a balanced pressure (normally slightly negative pressure in furnace).
